The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland welcomes the committee’s decision to allow our Boyne demonstration to proceed without additional conditions. We are pleased that a majority of councillors upheld our right to hold a public procession and meeting to mark the 336th Anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne in Edinburgh.
It is disappointing, though not surprising, that some individuals again sought to prevent our lawful demonstration. Councillors Chas Booth and Susan Rae proposed and seconded a deferment without legal justification. Their motion was rejected by the committee.
Our Institution continues to encounter what we regard as partisan opposition from certain members of the Scottish Greens and the SNP. We will continue to highlight instances of bias where they occur. Councillor Susan Rae’s association with the James Connolly Society is noted in this context.
The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland looks forward to celebrating with the County Grand Lodge of the East in Edinburgh, where thousands of members will gather for the 336th Anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.
