It’s been a summer of success for the Edward Douglas District 42 and the Blue Star Social Club as they quite literally raised the roof at their much-loved club on Lorne Street, Glasgow.

Supported by the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland Property Committee, the club embarked on a full roof replacement project that has now been completed on time, on budget, and to an exceptional standard — a shining example of teamwork and dedication within our community.

A Roof to Be Proud Of

The project began on Monday 7th July 2025 and reached completion on Friday 8th August — just five weeks later. During that time, contractors replaced 580 square metres of slates and tiles, resealed the box gutter, re-rendered two rear sections of the property, and cleared out the gutters, ensuring the building is watertight and ready for many more years of service to the community.

All work was carried out with the utmost consideration for neighbouring residents, and the team ensured that the north side of the roof was finished ahead of local schools returning from their summer break — a thoughtful touch demonstrating real professionalism and respect for the area.

Teamwork and Commitment

The project was managed by Blue Star Social Club’s own contract managers, Christine Ogilvie and Alex Cowie, in close partnership with principal contractor Arch Contracts Ltd.

Under the direction of Project Manager Steven Cordner and Financial Controller Angela Cordner, Arch Contracts delivered the works seamlessly, maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and communication throughout.

A long-term warranty has now been issued for the roof, ensuring lasting peace of mind for the Club and its members.

A Word of Thanks

Reflecting on the success of the project, Blue Star Social Club Contract Manager Alex Cowie shared his appreciation:

“They have been absolutely fantastic with us, and they are also our own Brothers and Sisters.”

It’s always something special when our own members contribute their skills and expertise to improve and preserve our shared spaces — and this project is a testament to what can be achieved when we work together.
