Situated
on the ground floor is the Cameron Library. We named the library
after Richard Cameron one of the better known names of the
Scottish Covenanters and their heroes of resistance to arbitrary
power. As a preacher, public figure and popular leader, he
epitomized the steadfastness of a people in the face of bitter
and protracted persecution in the 17th Century. Such was the
impact of his life, even in his own day, his name came to be
synonymous with uncompromising adherence to a cause - a cause
that was of the very essence of civil and religious freedom.
After his death his name was kept alive in the public memory by
those who continued to witness for the values in which he
believed and it was later adopted by a distinguished military
regiment which was formed to defend those very same values. |
With over 300
books in the library we have a very interesting collection on
subjects such as The Reformation, Covenanters, Orange History,
Northern Ireland, Christianity, The Glorious Revolution and a
complete set of the Ulster Society Publications. The library
also stores the reports and minutes of the Grand Lodge dating
back to 1876. A section within the library has some Historical
Certificates and Warrants that date back to 1812. In this modern
time we also have many video's of various Orange Events over the
past decade. |
